What About The Purse

A purse, especially for a woman, it is not just a purse alone, not only is it a medium to carry her money and other items around, it is also a fashion accessory that displays a lot about the purse’s user. Women all over the world, especially in developed countries value purses more than any other bag and it is for that reason that the handbag industry has become such a profitable industry.

People often argue if there is a difference between the size of a purse and a handbag or not. Whatever the case is, purses for women are often called handbags. You must realize that purses have not evolved into a fashion icon just recently; it has been so for the past hundreds of years, right from the time of the ancient Egyptians and Babylonians. They used pouches during religious ceremonies while in the 14th century; purses that were fastened to the waist with the help of girdles were in fashion. Jewels of the most valuable kind adorned the purses of the richest people in those times as a symbol of prosperity.

It was not until the 16th century however, that cotton and even leather purses were made with a drawstring to secure the inner items. Embroidery regarding purse designing evolved as a trend again in the 17th century to leave some extraordinary pieces even today. The 18th century saw the Reticule, a small purse without a handle. Such a purse needed to be carried around in one’s hands only, the forefather of today’s clutch bags or chic bags.

Today, however, purses have crossed all previous ages in respect of the amount of money involved in the industry each year as well as the availability of various designs and styles. Be it the color, the material of the bag or the style in which it is made, the top brands like Prada, Hermes, Gucci and others have made the market for purses a huge and diverse one.
